Hi,
A short story from Paulo Coelho's book Maktub:
An explorer, a white man, anxious to reach his destination in the heart of Africa, promised an extra payment to his bearers if they would make greater speed. For several days, the bearers moved along at a faster pace.
One afternoon, though, they all suddenly put down their burden and sat on the ground. No matter how much money they were offered, they refused to move on. When the explorer finally asked why they were behaving as they were, he was given the following answer: "We have been moving along at such a fast pace that we no longer know what we are doing. Now we have to wait until our soul catches up with us."
Thanks.

Hi Wen Shih,
The situation is sad (not just in Sg but throughout humanity all around the world), but with greater awareness and information availability (the internet will be the single greatest innovation that impacts the evolution of humanity), lies greater opportunity for every individual to utilize their free-will and make their choices, and to do their part to make a difference to the world. And I'm not referring merely to any political aspects, but just as importantly, to the inner spiritual aspects as well, for everyone.
"Be the change that you wish to see in the world." - Ghandi.
This is actually a well-documented unethical exploitative scam, and is rampant throughout Asia (and some other parts of the world as well, eg. Middle East). Foreign labour is being exploited as modern day slaves.

"PRC girl came to Singapore to work as kopitiam lady. Everyday she worked for 12 hours without complaining about hardship. But the kopitiam customers felt otherwise. She was surprised to see that Singaporeans couldn't take long working hours! She wrote down her thoughts in a blog, causing heated discussions among the netizens.
Kopitiam girl, Li Jing came from Benxi City, Liaoning Province. She came to Singapore in May 2008. She went home in May this year after her contract expired. She wrote down her working experience here in an article.
In one part, she wrote that during her work in the coffee shop, there were a lot of customers, especially office ladies, when learned about her 12 hour day work, would stare with incredulous look and sympathise her.
Li Jing felt that working for 12 hours a day in Singapore was nothing because when she was working as a salesgirl in a clothing store at home, it was even more difficult.
She said that working in Singapore can at least rest for 1.5 day over the weekend. In her hometown, she used to work 7 days a week without rest, earning only a mere S$170 (about RMB 800)
Hence, upon her contract expiry, she very much wanted to continue to stay in Singapore to work. However, after applying for 50 jobs with no response, she had to reluctantly return home on the 7th day of her contract expiration.
She said that if there is an opportunity, she will want to come with her sister to Singapore to work again. She wants to make enough money to go back home and open a clothing store."
>>> However, after applying for 50 jobs with no response, she had to reluctantly return home on the 7th day of her contract expiration. <<<
This is a quick test for you brilliant 3in1 bros here... how come despite of "cheap" labour, she cannot get a job after applying to 50 places before her contract expiry?

To answer your question.
If you are a boss, would you hire:
a) A fresh PRCian who pays $5k to syndicates for the chance to come here to work. The $5k goes to $2.5k for Chinese HR company in China, $2.5k for local sg HR company in Sg, then they split fifty fifty with you (Kopitiam boss), rebate $1.25k
b) A PRCian already here, you just pay salary. You don't get $rebate.
Which would you choose?

BINGO!
Actually bro, the rate now is $10K liao. Yes, you are right. Kopitiam boss gets big rebates back for a new hire every 2 years. There is a big scam going on which is almost un-prosecutable...
So in this case, no local bosses want her, cause got no rebate. Even if she is willing to offer another $10K, no local bosses dare to take direct from her because of direct linkage to corruption if she "comprains".
For the new cases, PRCs pay china middleman, then china middleman deals direct with local bosses here. Safer this way.
SINGAPORE BOSSES IS INDULGING NOTHING MORE THAN THE MODERN-DAY version of slavery!
