My problem with mathematical compass

The night before any Maths test/exam, I always tighten my compass.
Usually the first few drawing are accurate, but after awhile it become very loose. You know, loose compass always results in inaccurate drawing.
Any method to solve this problem?
This is the picture of my mathematical compass.
Should I change to compass with tracing wheel? But the limitation of this is that it can only extended to a mere less than 6cm. In exam, I might required to extend up to 11cm+ length.
How? Any suggestion? -
what I do is to always draw lightly, but draw a few times so that it becomes darker...
Why do you need to extend to 11cm? -
bring the screwdriver along with you to tighten it, during the exam

cuz urs is a cheapo but look nice compass.
mine is a old and big one, which is quite ugly but very good to use.

Use compass find 6cm mark
then at that point cut for 5cm mark
then u get 11cm already le. -

dun buy this type come with mechanical pencil 1
buy those type that come with a hole for you to put the type of traditional pencil 1...
and buy a more expensive 1. -
anyone wants me to dig out an A level trigo question to try out (for those trying O level stuff) or an A level S paper trigo question to play with (for those playing with A level exams)

That's a cheapo compass. Even an engineer like me uses one with a real pencil.

for me, i prefer to use the wooden pencil one.
i notice when i use the mechanical pencil compass,either lead broke or loosening of the tip occurs.
if u wanna continue using the mechanical-pencil de, dun exert too much strength on the sharp tip.
u can try this...when marking out arcs, draw ur arc lightly first, then go over it a few good times to make it darker.
theres no fear of putting a tad too much pressure to ur compass, resulting in alterations of compass angles or tip loosening.
some teachers are against this idea as it might result in 2 or more arcs being formed instead juz one accurate one. but i always like to challenge them...if ur good, ur good.
theres no need to worry abt double arcs drawn if u hold on to ur compass well.. -
