A small question for students in Singapore

What do u think are the effects of rewards n punishments of the education system in Singapore?

reward - student happy, continue to work hard
punish - student not happy, may work harder or dun work at all

it's a 2000 word essay that needs more points....

One buring issue for my whole secondary school life , late for school 10min ; detention 1 hour , late for school 5 hour ; detention 1 hour , pon school 1 day ; 1 hour detention
So what will the student think ? -

only once when i abit late , reach school gate liao they close the gate , like MRT door like that , close mean close , late 2 sec your problem.
And i got a 1 hour detention cause im 2 sec late , my detention mate scold me idiot for reporting in as late , might as well go foodcourt eat breakfast then go school , cause also 1 hour detention
Anyway i dont care , from then on i arrive school 15min before school is open , around 5.45am. Well , that was then -
cash for rewards
and punishments.... i think first. next time i think liao then i post. -
results in a neverending cycle? the good only get better, the bad get worse. but i feel that the system of meritocracy is fair, you reap what you sow! so work hard and you will receive your due rewards.

rewards - students feel appreciated, more motivation to do better. but may turn out tt they oni do bcos of the reward, not bcos they want to do it or for their own good.
punishment - students will understand tt rules are necessary to instill discipline and society does not tolerate wrongdoings. but may make them feel demoralised or feel tt creativity or having own thinking is not acceptable and thus dun bother to work hard anymore -
rewards,
example bursaries would spur the students whom come from families from lower income to work harder and obtain them? -

accumulate until a certain amount then will be expelled
ranging from late for class, dye hair, theft, fight in school, caught smoking in sch uniform and i dunno wat
mild ones maybe just do things like sweep basketball court, pick up litter in field -

my fren from Catholic High last time, dunno for wat he did, the teacher made him balance the big black poon cho tang on the head and stand outside the classroom for 2 periods (about 1hr?)

My sec sch punishments was - Canning, staying back aft class. External and internal suspension. Worse case is expulsion.
