I think there's something wrong with that. Cuz if the case is really what you have written, did you notice the chemical formula doesn't balance up? Ionic equation has to be balanced and the charges must be equal.
For example, if there's a charge of 0 on the left side, right hand side must also have a charge of 0.
Mg(s) + 2 H+(aq) => Mg2+(aq) + H2(g)
oh right. sorry, forgot that element got no charge.
