Primary 5 Fractions

  My bf's sister is in Primary 5 this year and she sucks at fractions. Their mum is asking to try to coach her. Any idea what i can do to help her understand better? It doesn't help that i take 2 hours to explain one question to her and she still doesn't get it...

  i tink ya can try da no ans no lollipop method. Alternatively, ya can let her eat pig brain or if u r seekin a cheaper method, i suggest u threaten 2 beat her up if she cant ans

  u can use real life example to illustrate... one of the simplest is use coin / money lor.

  use real life example so that she can link to reality / visualise... it's the same method as analogy... simplifying the thing to make it easier to understand...

  hmm..that's a big problem..i think because me and her are always joking around..she finds it quite hard to stay serious

  so whenever i try explaining to her...she ends up laughing and simply forgets about whatever i just said...

  Make your 'student' rewrite the fraction equation again and again with workings and not only like this: 5/8 + 6/8 = 11/8 = 1 3/8. NO!

  And don't joke with her. Calm yourself down.

  these type of things..u must find out something she likes and associate it with the problems..

  If she likes High School Musical, incorporate the characters or plots inside..for example, that blond guy (i dunno the name) got 6 basketballs etc 

  worked for me when i was tutoring pri school kids..

  haha~okay...thanks for the suggestions...the High school musical thingy could work out...but restricting her to tv will NEVER work..think somehow she'll a little too spoilt? But i did tell her how lucky she is...

  My mum made me sit in front of the tv..and i meant looking at the tv set not tv shows...while the rest of the family watched tv in one room, and another few of them in another on the computer(hopefully not porn...my siblings all guys)
