What happened next is now well known in Thailand and the focal point of growing outrage. The midsize car burst into flames and the couple inside, both graduate students in their 30s, died at the scene of the accident.
The Mercedes driver, the son of a wealthy Thai businessman, survived with minor injuries and refused both alcohol and drug tests — and his wishes were respected. Police say he was driving at an estimated 240 kilometers per hour.
The Mercedes driver, Janepob Verraporn, 37, now tops a list of "Bangkok's deadly rich kids," as one Thai newspaper calls the children of privilege who have killed with their fancy cars. TV talk shows, social media forums and editorials have chimed in on a debate that asks whether justice will be served this time or — as with many past cases involving the elite rich — if Janepob will walk away from the crime with merely a fine and without any jail time.
The local newspapers said the case had hit a nerve in Thailand because of "the sense that there is one set of rules for the rich and influential and another for everyone else."

With my packet of econ bee hoon and my sealed cup of bubble tea, I am on my way to do the night shift. I do enjoy this shift, very quiet and little to do except listen to the radio with earphones. Her: Huh. You do realise that nearly everything in Singapore is connected to Temasek. Practically every cabinet minister has some aspect of Temasek that falls within their ambit, from Planes to Trains. From Banks to phones and god knows what else. How can they keep quiet.
Him: Thats the problem. I got this sense that they think I am not in charge. When Daddy-O was alive and when we had the preliminary cabinet meetings and it was practically no holds barred when it came to Temasek. Even the usual PLPs like Swee Say are silent now.
Her: You think they know something we don't.
Him: Cannot be. We got the whole country wired and the Civil Service upper echelon cannot get the same pay outside.
Her: Why don't you test the waters by suggesting that I will be stepping down.
Him: Won't work. Remember Chip. They already suspected it was a wayang. They won't bite again.
Her: Why don't you pull aside one or two of them and talk to them privately.
Him: Remember we tried with Lui. He wanted Desmond out and get a proper Rail executive with a proven track record. I said no and he walked. I cannot afford to play poker with these guys. And he is right. Why run a Ministry where you cannot make decisions and still get the brickbats.
Her: Its a double edge sword, you give in once and they climb all over your head.
Him: Maybe I don't turn up for Cabinet meetings and see what the minutes reflect.
Her: Not a good idea. People are already talking about you missing during major incidents.
Her: Hey, where you going?
Him: I thought I go to chomp chomp and buys some hawker fare. People love it when they see me queue up and eat hawker food. You should see the aunties and uncles in PA and grassroots when I meet them. Its orgasmic for them. I don't know why I did not think of it before.
Her: Don't go chomp chomp, standard a bit shaky. Go to Simpang Bedok, I hear it is a happening place. Get the Soup Tulang, heaven, real heaven.
Him: No go. No need to queue and they come to you while you are seated and they are quick. Exposure time limited. Also mainly Malay food, we need to bringing more of the Chinese in.
Her: Why don't you go Chomp Chomp, get the food, throw it in the bin and then go to Simpang Bedok.
Him: You see even food I got no control.
So Singaporean brother and sisters, this is the sort of things that I pick up the from the Radio. Exciting or not. My wife told me that since I started in this job, my outlook has been positive. Anyway, time for some bee soon and a sip of bubble tea while my mate Rizal covers the static post.

Following Indonesia's confrontation with China over fishing ships off Indonesia's coast, now Malaysia (because Malaysia owns Sarawak too, not just peninsula Malaysia) is also getting pissed off at China for over 100+ fishing ships off Sarawak's coast. Does China really think it can take on all of South East Asia combined? Hubris! Well, it probably can (militarily), but that'll give USA & allies the excuse to join in to whack China in the name of world peace and stability. China really should watch itself. It's making too many enemies too fast, and China can't count on Russia or North Korea for support (no honor amongst ruffians).

Just this 1-day false bravado "show of force" by North Korea (childishly threatening to bomb the residential house of South Korean female president) already costs millions of dollars in military ammunition. Bear in mind the majority of North Koreans are starving to death from poverty. This is the country in which if you offend Kim Jong Un or his elites, your entire extended family (including your wives, daughters and nieces) will either be executed (if they're lucky) or tortured in hard labor prisons for the rest of their lives.

To be fair to both of them, they both have valid points. While LKY would not have encouraged LKY-sentimentalism, he would also have understood such LKY-sentimentalism is a necessary part of nation building and a cohesive society (across race and religion). So LWL is right in reminding Singaporeans of LKY's unsentimental pragmatism, just as CHK is right in pointing out LWL's post may come across as 'scolding', and hence unappreciative of Singaporeans' sentiments (including respect for LKY), and that she should indeed lighten up.

Nurses (not just in Singapore, but everywhere around the word) are the No.1 most overworked and underpaid profession in society (if we exclude slaves, sex slaves, maids, and other semi-illegal exploitative segments of foreign workers industry where abuse is common and characteristic).
The work of nurses is harder and way more unpleasant than doctors, but nurses only receive a fraction of the paycheck, recognition and respect that doctors get. Admittedly, that's somewhat justifiable because doctors have a greater responsibility over the life & death of patients, but such power is also subject to murderous abuse. Nonetheless, nurses are undeniably overworked and underpaid. Even moreso than MOE teachers, and screw those in the private sector who think MOE teaching is an easy job (it's way tougher yet contributes more to society than the corrupt finance & banking industry any day).
