Speaking last summer of his ordeal to AFP, Yu said he was strapped to a hospital bed for almost 20 days while forced to ingest a cocktail of pills intended to "correct" his sexual orientation from homosexual to heterosexual, with hospital staff threatening to beat him up if he refused to swallow.
The verdict recounted Yu's statement that he was "treated by force" with medications and injections for 19 days.
The man, surnamed Yu, filed a lawsuit and last week a court in the city of Zhumadian, central Henan province, ruled in his favour, ordering the hospital to issue a public apology and pay him 5,000 yuan (Sg$735) in compensation.

[WW2] - Few Singaporeans empathize and sympathize with the horrors depth of suffering of wars, such as WW2, in which over 3 million Japanese (including 1 million women and children) died. In Suicide Cliff (photo below) alone, over 8000 Japanese civilians (more than half of them women and children, and several hundred babies), believing their government propaganda that the American soldiers (who were then winning the war and massive reinforcements were about to reach Saipan island from the sea) would rape, torture and kill all the Japanese (including the children), made the decision to commit suicide en masse by jumping off the cliffs. When the American troops arrived by sea shortly after, they described seeing thousands of bodies (the women still in kimonos, and hundreds of dead babies) floating on the waters, clogging up their ships' propellers. The American troops were shocked at the sight, as they had never intended to rape and torture all the Japanese civilian women and children as the Japanese believed, so they couldn't understand why 8000 Japanese civilians would commit suicide en masse like this.

It would take a long time to finish viewing them, yet everyone should watch them to understand the horrors of the world wars, and to appreciate the courage and sacrifices of those who made the end of the world wars, and hence peacetime, possible.

Are you kidding? The best language of instruction (eg. when learning Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Medicine, etc) is obviously English, the lingua franca of the world, in order to effectively communicate with the rest of the world (ie. not just with America ; for instance in Europe, the many different Europeans all have their own distinct mother tongue language, but almost all are at proficient in English for the sake of communication with the rest of the world). Having English as the language of instruction has conferred the single most important educational advantage Singapore has had over other Asian countries (eg. Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc), and as Singapore's bilingual policies have proven, does not necessarily require sacrificing your mother tongue or ethnic culture altogether.

Similar discrimination and suffering continues to be endured by many similar groups (eg. Chinese in Myanmar are discriminated by both other Myanmese and by China Chinese, the Indonesian Chinese, etc.).
After Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese, over a hundred thousand innocent ethnic Japanese who were mostly already American citizens, kena discrimination, kena arrested, and kena placed in concentration camps, all because the US Govt were worried about their loyalties in what could have been a long drawn out war with Japan in WW2.
Shortly after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066, which authorized the forced removal and confinement of 120,000 Japanese Americans then living on the West Coast of the United States. Some 5,500 men arrested by the FBI immediately after Pearl Harbor were already in Justice Department or Army custody, and 5,000 were able to "voluntarily" relocate outside the exclusion zone; the Japanese Americans were "evacuated" from their homes and placed in isolated concentration camps over the spring of 1942. Two-thirds were U.S. citizens and half were under age 18.

The new Mediacorp Channel 8 drama series 相信我 (HD) Have A Little Faith (HD) - EP 3, seems more interesting than the average Mediacorp drama series. It deliberately includes a social commentary on how most Singaporeans are self-centered and wouldn't help if they see others in trouble, to save themselves any potential trouble (eg. the trouble of having to make statements at the police station, if they volunteered themselves as eyewitnesses).

In today's 信我 (HD) Have A Little Faith (HD) – EP 3, Miss "Do u know who I am???" shows viewers who may be female tenants how to check if your male landlord is spying on you in the bathroom or bedroom, using tricks such as a feather placed above the door, electronic gadgets to detect hidden cameras, and of course, using her own hidden camera to spy on the landlord spying on her, and she profitably blackmails the landlord after she catches him in the act, too.

On tonight's Hawaii Five-O 7 (HD) - EP 6, a supernatural haunting is suspected in the murder of a woman. It's a common literary, film or plot device these days, to include 'good cop bad cop' or in this case, 'skeptic vs believer' characters, for both the skeptics and the believers in the audience to relate to and empathize with. Of course, almost all such TV episodes or movies, will mostly endeavor an open-ending, as is the case in real-life, leaving both the atheistic explanation and supernatural explanation both possible.

Truth is even worse than fiction. The worst part of the 'death cult' that Kono & Adam encountered in tonight's episode of Hawaii Five-O, that hunt, abduct and torture innocent victims, is that there are real such death cults out there which are unknown to law agencies, and are still covertly operating. Do you have any idea how many new Missing Persons there are every year across the world? (disappearances from a variety of reasons, eg international sex slavery syndicates, psychopath sexual sadists such as Ariel Castro, homless people and/or foreign tourists abducted for harvesting their organs, political abductees by totalitarian governments, racial/religious motivated, eg. missing pastors in Malaysia, or more supernatural-linked disappearances and/or extraterrestrial abductions, etc). Imagine if you were the innocent victim in any one of these movies below, the terror you would you feel would be indescribable. Always remember : Truth is even worse than Fiction.
