You can try high pulls(correct me if its the wrong term) as well>basically an explosive olympic movment that looks like an upright row BUT you raise your calves up and explode the weight like an upright row.

I also set the treadmill to incline mode with moderate speed and walk on it for 20 minutes almost everyday.First thing in the morning.
Yes,I know he wants to train calves,but any heavy lower body compound movement will make the calves work.
I don't think you raise your calves on high pulls.Your heels are flat on the floor all the time if I am not wrong.
How about jumping squats? A killer for the calves and also the lungs!
