Somewhere in 2008, I met a young 27 year old Caucasian girl from Slovenia while visiting Pulau Langkawi. She was travelling backpacking alone in Thailand and at the same time taking up Thais massage courses in Thailand for 6 months. She was a Therapist back in her own country and she was in Pulau Langkawi to exit out from Thailand for 2 weeks and to reenter Thailand again to extend her stay there. I was in Pulau Langkawi for a week only. How I managed to know her. Well, we seemed to arrive at the small inn at the same time and were going to check in but before that I requested to view the room first and she too requested at the reception to view the room. So the clerk brought us both to look at our room and as we walked towards the rooms available we talked awhile. After viewing it, she preferred the room that I had chosen for myself because it seemed to be cleaner and no cockroaches. So I told her to take my room instead and I will take her room for myself. So from there we became friends. We went sight-seeing Langkawi together and spend our time at the beach together too. We talked about many subjects and one of the subject that I like to listen to her was the wars, the ethnic tension and the breakup of Yugoslavia. She is a Christian and she has many Muslim friends in her school and she has no hatred or grudges against them during that brief war in Slovenia for Independence from Yugoslavia. After 1989 Student massacre in Tiananmen Square in The People Republic Of China, the breaking of The Berlin Wall took place in 1990, then East and West Germany reunited. Then the breakup of U.S.S.R. in 1991. Then followed by the breakup of Yugoslavia with many ethnic/independence wars within Yugoslavia from early 1990s to 1999. Bosnia state war was the most vicious war. This movie was directed by Angelina Jolie. Well, ignore the sexual scenes...the moral story in this movie hopefully will help us to see ourselves better

I Was Born in the Land of Blood and Honey Angelina Jolie has made a powerful movie about the Bosnian conflict that I will never go see. Her film In the Land of Blood and Honey tells the story of a Bosnian woman who is now a captive in a prison camp overseen by a Serbian soldier who was once her lover. The film won the "Cinema for Peace Award" at Cannes and seems destined to win many other awards. I hear it's a really powerful and well-made film: a difficult story about a very difficult time for the country in which I grew up. I lived through the Bosnian War; I do human rights work; I run a foundation in Bosnia; I raise money for Haiti and Darfur and other causes; and so I was on the invitation list and was asked to attend the premiere. But I had to turn it down. I couldn't go and see this movie. To me, Bosnia is personal. I was born and raised there. My brother was killed there. I watched families destroyed by war and violence. I saw friends die. I survived, but many did not. Everyone loses during a war. Most learn this lesson by watching movies or reading books. I only watched the hunger games part 1 and 2 last night. The most powerful nation on earth leader, The United States Of America, Mr President Obama also has watched the hunger games too.
