Rom losses now £53m

ROMAN ABRAMOVICH may be a self-made billionaire — but he is not so shrewd when it comes to buying and selling players.
The weekend sales of Damien Duff and Asier del Horno have taken the Chelsea owner’s losses in the transfer market to an incredible £53.15MILLION in just three years.
During that time the Premiership champions have LOST more than double the amount of cash title rivals Arsenal have SPENT.
Midfielder Duff, 27, signed from Blackburn for £17m at the start of Red Rom’s revolution in July 2003 and joined Newcastle on Saturday night for a knockdown £5m.
Defender Del Horno, 25, switched to Valencia for £4.8m — 13 months after arriving at Stamford Bridge from Athletic Bilbao for £8m.
But these are by no means the biggest dents in AbramovichÂ’s wallet.
The mega-rich Russian let Juan Veron go to Inter Milan for nothing in June 2005 after splashing out £15m on the Manchester United midfielder two years earlier.
And Red Rom lost all of the £15.8m he paid Parma for Adrian Mutu when Chelsea sacked the cocaine-snorting striker for failing a drug test in 2004.
Amazingly, the only signing to make a profit was Yugoslavian flop Mateja Kezman.
Red Rom paid PSV Eindhoven £5m for the striker in July 2004 and flogged him to Atletico Madrid 11 months later for £5.3m.

I was so happie when that bird brain bought Veron away from United.
I tot we were losing alot of money on Veron but guess wad? Chelski actually throw us a lifeline and bought him over for 15 million! Holy!
I think Chelski is lucky that his interest is still there.
Cos one day, if he decides to throw away this toy, Chelski will be forever wiped clean from earth!

Hmm.. United didn't destroy him. His playing style just doesn't suit the EPL where attacks are fast whereas in Serie A, where he played for Lazio before United bought him, attacks are of slower tempo and passes can be spray from one end of the field to the other like nobody's business.
Dats why Veron flourish at Serie A n falls at EPL.

i was very surprised when chelsea signed him. but it was a good move. afterall RA doesnt care about money.

Actually, the Argentinian side is packed with abundance of talents and players can be playing the world cup now and not neccessary 4 years later.
For example, before Veron, Almeyda was a superb midfielder as well. But he lost touch n gone forever.
Same goes to Javier Zanetti, Walter Samuel & Ariel Ortega, jus to name a few.
