Roy Keane returned for the start of the second half wearing a suit jacket, although it was his team that underwent the greatest transformation. The former Manchester United midfielder claimed last week that he has often been the recipient of inspirational speeches from his old managers and it can only be imagined his own words at the interval were similarly uplifting. Sunderland, seemingly heading for a fifth league defeat, made sure Keane started his managerial career with a victory through two goals in three minutes.
Keane's presence fuelled the expectation pursuing Sunderland's arrival here. More than 5,000 of their supporters made the trip from Wearside and many of them were waiting when the team coach pulled up outside the ground as the familiar chant of 'Keano' welcomed the new manager.

Sunderland manager Roy Keane made a triumphant return to Elland Road on Wednesday as his new team beat Leeds United 3-0 in their League Championship division clash.
The former Manchester United midfielder was given a hot reception by the home fans at a ground he described this week as one of the most hostile venues he had ever played in.
His team took the pressure off their manager, though, as goals by Liam Miller, Graham Kavanagh and Stephen Elliot put the visitors firmly in control by the 48th minute.
Sunderland jumped eight places to 14th with nine points from seven games, while Leeds dropped four spots to replace their opponents in the bottom three as they remained on seven points. The win should help Keane forget painful memories of Elland Road
Keane made some astute signings prior to the closure of the transfer window and is threatening to turn a team of losers into serious promotion contenders.
Leeds were woeful against a Sunderland team who have been transformed side since Keane arrived as their manager.
Keane said: "I spoke during the last few weeks about character, spirit and desire of the players - but on top of that you need good players with talent.
"They showed that tonight, and I'm proud of them."

Mick McCarthy has really bad karma indeed. he sent Roy Keane home from WC2002, twice took Sunderland down, got sacked and was eventually succeeded by Keane.
