Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes are champing at the bit to return to first-team action as they serve out the final match of their three-game bans for the match with Tottenham on Saturday.
Both received red cards in the Amsterdam tournament in pre-season and have missed the wins over Charlton and Watford.
And Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson admits he will be relieved to have the pair available for the visits of Celtic and Arsenal next week; not only for what they bring to the team, but to put an end to their restlessness.
"Wayne and Paul have worked very hard in training,” he told Manchester United Radio. "But they’ve been like bears with sore heads, they're not been happy bunnies - any way you want to put it, they’re not satisfied unless they’re playing.”
There was a fully warranted feeling of injustice that the two missed Premiership matches for red cards in the friendly tournament, neither of which were serious incidents. Now, the manager warned Rooney and Scholes will be looking to take out the frustration of being idle on the field when they return.
“They know they have been punished, particularly in the case of Wayne, very unfairly,” he said. “But we just have to get on with it and not let it affect us. We have to put it to one side and play our football. They will be available for Celtic and Arsenal and they will be raring to go. It will be great to have them both back.”
