Gary Neville hailed Ryan Giggs a legend in the truest sense of the word after the Welshman inspired United to a slender 1-0 win over Tottenham at Old Trafford.
The 32-year-old, who before the match received the August Player of the Month award, scored after 12 minutes with a header to maintain the teamÂ’s unbeaten start to the season and return the Reds to the top of the Premiership.
Surprisingly, it is the first time Giggs has ever won the award, and Neville says his recent impressive performances are nothing out of the ordinary.
“Ryan has been playing like that for the last 12 years,” Neville told Sky Sports. “He’s a brilliant footballer.
“When he does finish playing he will be truly regarded as a great. He’s incredible, he takes his game to another level and progresses every season.”
GiggsÂ’ goal was the only difference between United and Tottenham on Saturday, and Reds skipper Neville was quick to admit it was a nervy finish. But he also says United can have achieved no more than maximum points at this stage of the season.
“We could have done with a second goal,” he said. “We were under pressure, but they are a good team. Both teams missed chances, but we’re happy to get through the game, particularly after the international break, because that can always be a difficult time.
