Kieran Richardson is enjoying the battle to play games in the United team, and believes the competition throughout the team will help the Reds this season.
The 21-year-old midfielder has been involved in three out of United's six fixtures so far this season, but the confident young England international is hopeful of plenty more chances in Sir Alex Ferguson's side.
"Everyone has been training really well this season and the standard is very high every day," he told Manchester United Radio.
"There is strong opposition for places, which is good for United and for me. At this club you have to fight for your place in the team. I believe in myself, so I just have to keep pushing on."
Richardson has come in leaps and bounds since his spell on loan with West Brom at the end of the 2004/05 season.
Last term he made 36 appearances and scored six goals, and Sir Alex has made it known that he wants everyone in his squad to be ready when required.
"The manager wants all his players sharp and on the ball, ready to play if needed," added Kieran. "I have to make sure I am ready, everyone does, because we want to win the league this season."
