I did not watch the 1st half but after reading reports, I think the key is that 1st half, MUFC defended to wear the benifca players down.
And during 2nd half, it was the most impressive defensive display I have seen.
Surprisingly, JOhsea and Carrick played well.
Only concern is Rooney. He seems to have his confidence.
Normally, we would expect rockets from his boot..
However, another has stepped up and it is Ronaldo.
He is simply fanastic. -
Louis Saha gave Manchester United their first away victory in Europe in almost three years in a difficult 1-0 win against Benfica.
Sir Alex Ferguson's men were outplayed for much of the first half, as they looked to avenge last season's UEFA Champions League exit at the hands of their opponents.
Wow... they were out-played in the first half and things really didn't look good at that time, then came back in the second half when the benfica players ran out of steam and couldn't keep running at the pace they were doing in the first half.
Benfica players must be feeling sick after they played very well in the first half then lose... Man u absorb all the pressure in the first half then score from nowhere...

at least it showed some change. it would be sucidical if we were to go back with the same tactics and hope to beat them.
now, if we can work and get the win against FC Cop.
Then we can afford to give players like Smith a good run in. -
Santos: United win 'unjust'
Benfica coach Fernando Santos claims United's narrow 1-0 victory in Lisbon was "unjust" after his side dominated the first half.
Louis Saha struck after an hour to put the Reds three points clear at the top of Group F, and at the same time gave the Reds a first away win in the Champions League since November 2003.
The victory went some way to exacting revenge on Benfica for the 2-1 defeat in December last year, which left the Reds bottom of the group and out of the competition before the knockout stages. But Santos believes his side deserved more from the match.
"We feel disillusioned," he said. "It's sad after what the team did, especially in the first 45 minutes. We played an excellent game.
"We pressured them in midfield and recovered the ball in the attacking areas. Manchester clearly opted for a strategy of containment, in an attempt to take advantage of any errors of ours in a counter-attack situation."
United did exactly that when Louis Saha broke forward from Cristiano Ronaldo's pass, before lashing in the winner.
"In the second half, Manchester managed to control things better, but it is too much of an unjust result for what Benfica did."

That was the best eleven of united i think... with Vidic and Heinze back, the defence looked more tougher. And also without those 2 fellows Fletcher and Richardson... always giving the ball away and can't hold the midfield down well.
But Edwin van der Sar really is important man... he makes those crosses into united's box looked like easy catch, making the whole defence more confident also. -

Vidic should cut down on un-necessary fouls and cut the ball out from every opponents' passes instead of waiting for them to take him on.
Fletcher should just leave United. He's still here becos he's a scot.
Richardson needs more match and learn more tricks from Ronaldo instead of running straight at defenders like headless chicken.
And yeap, van der Sar is the man.

well, the new kid was not tooo bad too. the keeper from west brom.
the last I saw, his gloves seems abit big..
Edwin is experienced and sadly he came to United now.
Surprisingly, all our reserves and loaned keepers are doing quite well, like Tim & Ben..
Unjust or not, the end results counts. What's the point like Liverpool to have high counts of shots on goals but unable to win matches??
I am pleasantly surprised that SAF dare to change from all-attacking to contain and then counter-attack.. We are talking about millions of pounds gain or lost. And for a big club like MUFC, you won't expect them to go to others' backyard, and gift a win to the other team year in, year out, right??
Benfica will be stupid to expect that. and rightfully so, they lost. -
Tomasz Kuszczak is a good keeper too but somehow he still lack that allure around him that VDS currently possess. It rather worrying when crosses comes in and the keeper looks unreliable... making the whole defence nervous and shaky.
But having said that, he is the better 2nd choice compare to the rest at the moment. -
