John O'Shea admits he still feels humiliated by the Republic of Ireland's 5-2 mauling at the hands of international minnows Cyprus.
The United utility man was part of Steve Staunton's side which imploded in Nicosia, and O'Shea says the entire squad needs to take the flak - not just the manager.
O’Shea said: “It was very, very humiliating to be on the end of that result. We got what we deserved. It was a lack of concentration and a lack of doing things properly.
"It’s all well and good blaming individuals but the players have to take it as a team. Everyone is going to write us off - and rightly so after a performance like that.”
Saturday's catastrophe and an opening game defeat to Germany have left Ireland pointless in Group D and facing an uphill struggle to reach the Euro 2008 finals.
With the Czech Republic next up in Dublin on Wednesday, O'Shea has called for the squad to regroup and get behind under-fire Staunton.
“You cannot blame the manager," he said. "He is not creating the problems out on the pitch is he? It’s a case of getting behind him and focusing on what will be a very, very tough job against the Czechs.”
