Wayne Rooney firmly believes United can win the league this season - and he says the Reds' close-knit squad is more than a match for Chelsea.
United failed in their attempt to bring in a defensive midfielder in the summer, but Rooney refuses to accept that will hinder Sir Alex's side. And, although the 20-year-old is yet to hit top form this term, the debate about his displays hasn't dampened his confidence.
"Everyone likes to see new faces at my football club and I'm no different, but I think we can win the title with the squad we've got," he told FourFourTwo.
"I really believe that, I wouldn't say something if I didn't believe it. We've got a good squad. We've got a lot of young players who are doing well and hopefully more will come through.
"Then we've got the experience of Giggsy, Scholesy, Edwin van der Sar and Gary Neville. They can help the younger lads to become better players - the likes of Ronaldo and myself."
Chelsea have imported a fleet of world stars, but Rooney believes that could be to United's advantage. "Chelsea will have some top stars sitting on the bench and you can see how that unnerves some players," he said. "I wouldn't like sitting on the bench each week. They might lose it at times."
