Having won eight Premiership winnersÂ’ medals with the Reds, Ryan Giggs is ideally placed to comment on UnitedÂ’s title chances this time around, and the Welshman reckons Sir AlexÂ’s side can push Chelsea all the way.
Top of the league and fresh from their most convincing performance of the season so far, a 4-0 demolition of Sam AllardyceÂ’s Bolton, United are in great form so far having taken 25 points from a possible 30.
Sir Alex has claimed his side will need to amass over 90 points - 65 more from 28 games – in order to prevent Jose Mourinho’s side capturing a third successive crown.
"Our squad is strong enough,” said Giggs. “We have two or three players for each position which is what you want with so many big games throughout the season.
“The important thing is not to suffer too many injuries or suspensions. Providing we have more or less a full squad available, I am sure we can cope. We can't afford too many mistakes in the title race," he added. "We got close to Chelsea last year and we hope we'll get even closer to them this time.
“We knew we had to put together a good run from the start and be consistent throughout the season. The most promising thing is that the young lads have come into the first team and performed well."
The 32-year-old winger is one of ten different goalscorers in the league for the Reds so far this season, an impressive attribute this United team will come to rely on as the title race develops. Giggs added: “When we've been successful in the past everyone has contributed with goals. Obviously Ruud scored a lot of goals, but I hope we can all chip in this season. It doesn't matter who scores as long as we get right results."
