GARY NEVILLE believes Alex Ferguson will stay in charge at Manchester United for another decade.
Ferguson celebrates 20 years in charge at Old Trafford on Monday. But United skipper Neville says people are wrong if they they think this milestone marks the beginning of the end for 64-year-old Fergie.
Neville said: “It would not surprise me if he was to go on for five to 10 years. “Why should he leave? He’s as determined as ever. “It is a continual challenge to be at this club. I know that from being a player, I know that from being a fan. That will keep him young.
“There was a period when people were talking about him retiring but that has gone away. “He knows the club, he knows how to make it successful. We have been developing a new side with a lot of young players and hopefully this season we can bear the fruits of that.”
Neville believes it was the sheer thrill of being in charge at United which halted FergusonÂ’s retirement plans four years ago.
Neville said: “The nearer it got to the time, he was thinking that he couldn’t live without this and it would have been the same for anybody in his position.
“It is a void you cannot fill, whether you leave this club as a player or a manager. It is impossible, losing that excitement, that thrill.”
Meanwhile, FergusonÂ’s right-hand man Carlos Queiroz has been short-listed for the USA managerÂ’s job.
