ferdinand and vidic. i think ferdinand can distribute the ball pretty well and he goes up front to help sometimes too. and vidic is the old school kind who will clear the mess and protect the goalie. so i think it gives ferdinand more freedom to go up
but i think the best defender would be terry -

Surely ferdinand is much more reliable/solid; has much more pace, better in headers, excellent reader of the game, able to bring the ball out with ease, knows how to create goals.
the only flaw would be he's too laxed at times. -

In my opinion Vidic - he has the stature and build to be a central defender - reminds of a bit like Jaap Stam. Rio Ferdinand sometimes can switch off one - in Man U's recent matches, Vidic stole the limelight from Ferdinand.
I would pick Vidic & Terry. Terry can score and defend well. Toure is also not bad, though he is young, he got the potential. The rest, I think can forget it. Hyppia is getting old & slow. Carvalho I think he lacks height. -
Terry is the best even though i am a Man United Fan...He is very consistent ....Hobo

Vidic and Ferdinand.. reminds me of the old school Gary Pallister and Paul Parker pairing.. both understand their scope and knows when to fall back and distribute the ball to the flanks

for me, i'll still rio and nemanja. both compliment each other. vidic is a monster. look at his face, he resembles Kane or at least a cannibal. LOL!
obviously he's better than that Chelsea 'cannibal' - Khalid Boulahrouz.
Terry lacks pace which is a serious problem when against say; the fleet-footed Thierry Henry. -
i feel that ferdinand and vidic is the strongest pairing of all..

i think ferdinand and carrager is the best cos vidic is good but not experienced enough. and carrager make crucial decisions at the most crucial times.
ferdinand and terry are good pairing but they are also leaders. you cant put two leaders on the same position, confusion will arise and each will try to outdo each other esp rio. so i'm sticking to my previous pairing -

i kinda agreed that Terry is probably the best base on the few players given, and his job was largely help because of Chelsea's soild midfield..
