Michael Carrick has saluted the Reds' battling qualities following their hard fought victory over Blackburn at the weekend.
A second half strike from Louis Saha gave United an invaluable victory at Ewood Park which kept them three points ahead of title rivals Chelsea at the Premiership summit.
"If you are going to win the league, this is the type of place where you need to get a result," Carrick told MUTV. "We showed a lot of character to grind out the result out and get the three points.
"We need a few of these type of victories to win the title, I have not been here long but that has already been made clear to me.
"Sometimes you enjoy those games even more than when you are playing free-flowing football. You feel as though you have really earned your victory.
"We are on a good run of wins," added the 25-year-old midfielder. "We are all very confident and we need to carry it on. The league is a long slog but hopefully this will be the start of things to come."
