two points to ponder.
1)read that heinze is not offered a new contract, and MUFC offered 7m for the saints defender.
2) we should never get KevinNolan, as he seemingly turns to jelly whenever he faces Liverpool.. -

what Gills says has some truth. SAF has traditionally never spend big during Jan transfer window. In fact, he almost never buy anyone - I only recall Saha was purchased during Jan window.
I think what Gills hinted was with Owen Heagraves arriving, there's probably no one else. -

Derby confirm Jones move
Championship promotion-chasers Derby County have confirmed the signing of United midfielder David Jones after a successful initial loan spell.
The 22-year-old playmaker, who made four senior appearances under Sir Alex Ferguson, was in inspirational form for the Rams throughout November and December.
Billy Davies' side have charged to second spot in the Championship, winning seven of their last 10 games since Jones' loan arrival.
Davies, who managed Jones during the player's loan at Preston last season, told the official Rams website: "I'm delighted to have secured the services of such a talented young player.
"I'm sure from what he's shown for the Rams so far that the Derby fans will know we've signed a first-class footballer.
"David has settled in really well at the club and shown signs of his quality. I'm sure he will get better and better the more games he plays."
Jonah captained United's Youth and Reserve teams, after signing professional forms with the Reds in July 2002. -

I think forget it lah..
there will not be any signings for MUFC..
at least Mourinho is frank and upfront by saying that he is limited.
at MUFC, they tend to hang the carrot, but it is just a decoy. -
I think it is crazy for MUFC to let go of CRonaldo for anyone, even Xavi, 27, unless this new guy got like Rooney and Henry combined..

Papers: Barca swap mooted

Manchester United face a battle to keep Cristiano Ronaldo after Barcelona president Joan Laporta made the Portugal winger his top target for next season. But United want the Spanish club's midfielder Xavi Hernandez, which could pave the way for a player-plus-cash deal. Laporta is determined to land Ronaldo, stung by his failure to sign No.1 target Thierry Henry last season. Manager Frank Rijkaard is not so keen on the player. A Barcelona source said: "Rijkaard doesn't feel Ronaldo is a priority and isn't sure it's worth spending £40m-plus for him. But Laporta has Ronaldo in his head and after what happened with Henry, is even more determined to get his first-choice player."

Reds linked with French star
The agent of French international midfielder Rio Antonio Mavuba claims United have expressed an interest in his client.
With Owen Hargreaves looking increasingly unlikely to leave Bayern Munich this January, United are being linked with a string of alternative targets, including 21-year-old Bordeaux star Mavuba.
Vincenzo Morabito told Sky Sports: "It is true that the player is followed very closely by clubs in England, but also in Italy.
"Manchester United and Juventus have asked for him. That is normal. Rio is a future top-class player and his future lies with a very ambitious European club."
Morabito conceded, however, that his client was more likely to be available for transfer at the end of the current campaign rather than immediately.
"The situation will depend on a lot of details," he said. "Bordeaux are an ambitious club that are attempting to qualify for a second consecutive UEFA Champions League, so it may be easier for Rio to leave in the summer.
"But if a club offer a big sum of money during the January transfer window, we will see if Bordeaux are interested in transferring him.
"I sincerely think that the summer transfer window will be more interesting for him." -
