Sir Alex Ferguson believes his United players are close to greatness after proving so far this season that they are worthy title contenders.
The boss, clearly buoyed by the positive team performances in recent weeks, told Manchester United Radio: "We have a lot to work for - I think they're on the verge of achieving something great at this club. You don't want to miss these things."
The Reds remain three points clear of Chelsea at the top of the league and could extend that total to nine points with wins over Middlesbrough and Manchester City - Chelsea don't play in the Premiership now until the day after the Manchester Derby, when they face Arsenal.
Heading into the crucial December and January months, Sir Alex wants to emerge from the busy festive period still in front.
"The name of the game is to maintain our three-point gap," he said. "The players are aware of that and so are the supporters."
