FORMER Manchester United star Ronnie Wallwork was recovering today after being repeatedly stabbed in a nightclub attack.
Wallwork, who now plays for Championside side West Bromich Albion but is currently on loan at Barnsley, was knifed in the hand, back and stomach at Manchester's Sugar Lounge last night.
Police were called to the bar at 11.30pm and the 29-year-old was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was understood to be in a stable condition today.
Wallwork spent five years at Old Trafford - where he used to play in the same team as former England captain David Beckham - before joining West Brom on a free transfer.
Wallwork has been involved in controversy before. He was given a life ban from football for attacking a referee while on loan playing for Antwerp in Belgium.
The ban was later rescinded and he was allowed to continue his playing career.
