  David Beckham will return to Manchester United for a charity game to commemorate the 50th anniversaries of the club's European Cup debut and the signing of the Treaty of Rome.
  
  The Real Madrid star has been cleared to play for a Europe XI against United in the fixture scheduled for March 13 next year, and will be part of a squad coached by Italy's World Cup-winning boss Marcello Lippi.
  
  Lippi said at a press conference after Saturday's Manchester derby: "I accepted the invitation immediately.
  
  "I'm delighted by the prospect of such a game and I am already looking forward to taking on my great friend Sir Alex Ferguson."

  Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will be happy to welcome Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham back to Old Trafford next year.
  
  Beckham has been picked for a UEFA Select XI to play United in March to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome -- which established the European Economic Community, forerunner to the EU -- and United's 50 years of European football.
  
  It will be the first time Beckham has played against his former club since leaving United to sign for Real Madrid in July 2003.
  
  "I think it's fantastic," Ferguson told reporters.
  
  "I think he was a great player at this club and he never had a chance to say goodbye to the fans because the transfer was done during the summer.
  
  "I think he will get a great welcome and deservedly so."
  
  Ferguson added: "He knows the value of this club. This is where he made his reputation. If I was in his position I would be exactly the same."
