Rooney says No to a holiday

WAYNE ROONEY has snubbed the chance of a New YearÂ’s break to rediscover his touch.
Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson was ready to give the England striker a 10-day rest, after a handful of tired-looking performances.
But Roo turned down the offer and was back at the Red DevilsÂ’ Carrington training ground yesterday for extra training.
Rooney, 21, was the only man who played the full game at Newcastle on New YearÂ’s Day to put in any outdoor work.
Then, while the rest of the first-team squad took on the reserves, he did an hourÂ’s shooting practice in a bid to find the answer to his recent barren spell.
A United source revealed: “No one expected to see him.
“We all thought he had been given time off but he was really hitting the ball hard.
"David Beckham used to fire free-kicks on his own, so I suppose itÂ’s a similar scenario for Wayne.
"At least it shows how eager he is that he is willing to put the effort in.”
Rooney has not been on target since scoring against Manchester City on December 9 and has since gone five games without a goal.
The source added: “It’s the first time I’ve seen him do it but it’s been a frustrating time for him in front of goal this season.”
Rooney is likely to be rested for SundayÂ’s FA Cup third-round home clash with Aston Villa, as Swede Henrik Larsson will make his debut. -

I think sometimes a break will do him more good.
seriously this guy has too much pressure on his shoulders. He was dubbed saviour of England & the last world cup, the media are all looking at him to win the World Cup single handedly for England. This forced him to play before fully recovering from injury and I dare say, partially or not, it affected his performance since then.
i say, take a break, go relax and do something, take your mind off and come back rejuvinated and a different player. SAF has this good policy of giving jaded players a period of off and most often than not, with positive results.
Schemichel was given off too, and he came back totally different and charged. I see no reason why Rooney shouldn't take the advise.
Don't over pressure yourself. come on, 5 matches without a goal is ok, Man U is still leading and goals are coming from other avenues. There are other players who have gone more matches without scoring anything... -
