Different tinking bah... Coz dat time Manu was very near the top of all clubs in terms of name, fame and power. Now its gone down liao, SO if Manu is back at the top then Ronaldo may decided to be faithful coz its the best to him?Originally posted by zocoss:Most of us also forget about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer... He came to united at only 23 almost 11 yrs ago already and has played very well for united over the years without any complains even when he was not playing.
There were many clubs who came in for him over the years including Tottenham Hotspur in 1998, with an offer of £5.5 million but he was never interested to leave even tho he would have been first choice at other clubs.
He should be consider one of Fergie's best buy as at only 1 or 1.5m he has scored alot of important goals for united during the years they won the titles, the doubles and the Treble... And even till today, he is still scoring important goals like the one against Villa recently.
And it seems his future is still to be with united after he retires from playing...

What make you think man u in goin down? The only reason ronaldo may even consider is because he is more closer to Spain... Portugal and Spain are almost alike compare to other European countries... The difference in climate between Spain and the north-west of England could be an attraction for Ronaldo, who was brought up on the Portuguese holiday island of Madeira.Originally posted by Bontakun:Different tinking bah... Some of the players on your list are still too young to be on it... Players like under 30 shouldn't be considered cos its still too early, they may still leave the clubs... As one of the guy here have already pointed out, Ashley Cole is no longer at Arsenal, and i think Joaquin is also not at Real Betis anymore...Originally posted by imprezaWRXSTi22B:at last count, was 22. feel free to add on.... above 23, played only with 1 club during their professional career, youth teams notwithstanding.

Well... down in terms of footballing power, influences and attraction to players? Maybe also ticket sales, merchandise, endorsements and such? I dunno. How about down as a footballing team in essense? In the 90s Manu swept aside competition in the local side and pose a major contender for European glory. Now with the fast rising Chelsea, youthful Arsenal, resurgent (can I use that?) Barcelona and giant club killers, Manu is not as invincible as it used to be.Originally posted by zocoss:What make you think man u in goin down? If it was other players, Real and Barce probably knows they won't even stand a chance and they won't even try. We have seen Henry turn Barce down, Gerrard not even interested to consider Spain... And man u only threw Beck and Ruud away to Real when Fergie wanted to get rid of them...
Real and Barce won't even try to get Rooney cos they know its as good as impossible to tempt him to Spain cos he was brought up in England so he won't be interested.
One classic eg. is Juan Sebastion Veron. Another is Diego Forlan. Fabian Baaaa~aaaa~aaaarthez.Originally posted by imprezaWRXSTi22B:man utd has traditionally been unsuccessful in luring top world class players. usually the players are home grown or shot to prominence from being relatively unknown players.
Well, compare to any other English side, i don't think they have a serious problem attracting players... they were in for Owen Hargreaves and the player himself practically said he wants to join them and how honoured he was that they were even considering him only for his present club not to allow the transfer... And there is their other target Gareth Bale... Many clubs have come in for him strongly including gunners and spurs... Spurs even went as far as promissing him a first team place and even had a $10m offer on the table... Despite that, he is still keen to go to man u whose offer was only $8m. Off course in the end, it was down to Southampton's boss George Burley who wants him to stay for another season or at least till the end of this.Originally posted by Bontakun:Well... down in terms of footballing power, influences and attraction to players? So can I assume its "going down"?
But in the end, I do hope Ronaldo stay at Manu. Loyalty, passion and future is the key to making him stay.![]()

On ticket sales... They are probably the only club that have a 76,000 stadium and usually full on match days... Compare to Chelsea who have only a 42,000 stadium yet find it difficult to fill it on almost every match day.
Merchandising, well they were the highest-ranked of eight English clubs in the top 20, their annual revenue of £167.8million and excludes transfer fees, value added tax and other sales-related taxes, they are still making more profits than any other club. Their AIG deal is worth £18million a year so i think their endorsements are still pretty healthy not to include their Nike deal. TV money from the Premiership will be around £50million, the Champions League should see income of at least another £20million while the average crowd at their EPL matches this season has been 75,776, bringing in around £2million in ticket sales for every home match.
As to your "down as a footballing team in essense" I cannot understand as to how much higher must one be if topping the league at present is not enough... Sure they didn't win the past 2, 3 yrs but every team will go through a bad period... They had their fair share of injuries to their key players over the last 2, 3 seasons just like chelsea is experiencing in this... No team is invincible, what goes up will come down eventually and during the 90s, they didn't swept aside competition in the local side... If anything, Arsenal were always around and they had to fight to the end in most seasons to capture the league title.
In Europe, every year there are at least 5 to 8 teams who are more than able to win the CL. Their chances are just as great if not better than united's. So there is no reason to say that they should win it by right. And on the local side, Chelsea is only being sustain by RA money, how long can they last is anyone's guess... Arsenal's youthful team may be great on their day but they still lack consistency and that is a very big problem. Then there is Pool. They are a serious contender. Once the money filters in, i think they may do well with Ah Ben still in charge.
But hey, the English league has always had a Big four for a long time already, before chelsea came along Spurs was consider one of the Big four, Then there was Everton before that... So there is not going to be much changes, it could be Nottm Forest, Ipswich or even Wolverhampton there and there will still be a Big four competing amongst themselves.
Well, one thing is you cannot base your views from just watching one match...Originally posted by Bontakun:![]()

Yar. Manu is also one of the few clubs who play fluid attacking football (well not much effectiveness to goals scored compared to their chances taken seen on yesterday's match...) and its something I enjoyed watching. Perhaps in the past I was not much exposed to Spanish, Italian, Dutch, French, German, Scottish and other European football as much as English football. Its virtually ½ year of all those European matches I watched compared to 12 years of EPL I watched so far. So its abit unusual I see Manu not as "strong" as it was last time.
You have a point: No team is invincible.![]()
Actually... Is Ryan Giggs fan a United fan...?Originally posted by zocoss:Well, one thing is you cannot base your views from just watching one match...Anyway, from the table, they have scored the most goals by a mile compare to the others or the second place team and let in the least too... And i'm glad to know that coming from a non united fan, you do find their football attractive...
To be fair, standards has gone up since chelsea came in... They used to be able to lose 6 games and still could win the league title but today, losing 3 or 4 is the most one can afford.
If you were to ask me, i would say they are as strong as anytime from the past... and personally, i think they have actually over achieve this year... I mean chelsea spent an average of over $70m per season over the last 3 or 4 years and united have probably spent about maybe $20m - 25m on average during that time and they have also sold players like Beckham and Ruud who still had value in them and also lose that John kid to chelsea tho for a decent sum...
Despite all this, and with a number of ageing players... That's the reason why i thought they have out done themselves this season... cos as we have seen from the last 2, just staying close to chelsea alone was already a problem let alone lead them at this stage... One more thing is at this time in the last 2 yrs, i think they didn't even had 55 points, now they already have 66.
Actually being a Ryan Giggs fan doesn't make you a United fan... I like Beckham also but that doesn't make me a Real madrid fan or a future LA Galaxy fan...Originally posted by Bontakun:Actually... Is Ryan Giggs fan a United fan...?![]()

I watched Manu match more than any other clubs because I saw the Ryan Giggs soccer show. That's where I know much about Manu. Cantona, Mark Huges, Robson, Pallister, Bruce, Irwin, Kanchelskis, etc, etc.
I do know quite abit about Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea in my time of watching football. The likes of Jamie Redknapp, David James, Robbie Fowler, Steve Macmanaman (How to spell?), Michael Owen, Dennis Bergkamp, Tony Adams, Nigel Winterburn, Marc Overmars, Emmanuel Petit, Nicholas Anelka, Dennis Wise, Giafranco Zola, Gianluca Vialli, Marcel Desailiy, Franck Lebeouf and many others!
Yes this time they have done a good job, IN fact its even better than the 99 season where they got the treble. (Well... at least in the local league...) And I do have some wild dream that they may be able to get another treble again this season. It just a WILD dream.
Oh btw: now I have added incentive to watch the Spanish Primera Liga. This mornings match on Barca vs Racing was good. NOT because of the likes of Ronaldinho or Deco or Xavi or E'eto or Messi. Its the commentator. You hear HOW he speaks? That accent and his way of choosing words. Its funny!![]()

He tried to say, "Ronaldinho is not Michael Jordan... He cannot catch that ball..." or the number of times he mention 'penalty' in one paragraph? I though I heard 8 times or more...![]()

Haha, OIC.Originally posted by zocoss:Actually being a Ryan Giggs fan doesn't make you a United fan... I like Beckham also but that doesn't make me a Real madrid fan or a future LA Galaxy fan...
There are afew players i like too which are not at united but i don't follow their club as much. I also like Rooney and Ronaldo but only while they are at united. Should Ronaldo go, then i won't be too bother to watch him anymore. Presently i follow their football because i am a united fan and they play for united. Should they leave, then i won't be watching much of them anymore cos i follow/watch united's match and not the players.
But base on the fact that you know so much about man utd and claim that you watched Manu match more than any other clubs since the early 90s ( i am assuming since you mentioned Cantona, Mark Huges, Robson, Pallister, Bruce... ) I suspect you are also a united fan...But just doesn't know it yet...
Actually the Primera Liga is quite boring... apart from the Barce and Real games... the rest are just plain boring... Imagine watching LEVANTE vs RECREATIVO HUELVA or GIMNASTIC TARRAGONA vs OSASUNA... I rather watch teams like West Ham, Reading or Aston Villa anyday...
Toking abt the Primera Liga, yeah... not much appeal compared to the EPL. Its more technical there. I not even sure much of Valencia or Villareal matches are ½ as exciting as Barcelona or Real Madrid matches or not. (Why Real Madrid is because they are capable of fascinating wins and ridiculous losses.I would not even bother to watch it UNTIL I heard the voice of the commentator narrarating the match...
