Aston Villa may turn to Manchester United in a bid to cure Chris Sutton of his eye condition.
The striker is currently suffering with a similar problem to the one that curtailed Paul Scholes' contribution last season, and has been out of action since December due to blurred vision.
A visit to an eye specialist last week did little to shed light on the situation, as his condition is yet to improve.
Now Villa boss Martin O'Neill is keen to find out if any lessons can be learned from Scholes's recovery.
"I think Paul Scholes and his situation is something that we should have a look at," said O'Neill.
"Maybe we should find out a bit more about that particular injury and see if that will be of benefit to us regarding Chris's condition.
"The situation with Chris is it (his vision) might suddenly start to come back or it may never change at all.
"If he thought it wasn't going to change and never got any worse by being hit on the head again, I think Chris would be happy.
"Chris would love some positive news and would be prepared to play again if he could get a guarantee that another knock on the head wouldn't make it worse.
"With the best will in the world, no-one can give him that assurance."
