BEFORE you start backing United to make mince meat of this French team consider a couple pointers. Lille are through to the knockout stages on merit, finishing just a point below AC Milan after beating the Rosseneri 2-0 at The San Siro. Plus they beat Man Utd last season which meant FergieÂ’s team finished bottom of their qualifying group.

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo's flying form in the Premiership he's yet to score in The Champions League despite only being 15/2 to score the first goal. Louis Saha has four goals in this season's competition but he looked out of sorts against Reading at the weekend so is unlikely to see many people backing him at 5/1. If you're going to back one of the strikers why not go for Henrik Larsson - he is still 5/1 to score the first or the last goal.
First legs of Champions League games are traditionally tight affairs, and you can get 7/5 with Paddy Power on there being less than 1.5 goals. Once they have that in the bag theyÂ’ll look to keep the Lille attacks to a minimum and use this result as a platform at Old Trafford.
Man Utd are favourites to win in France but as Lille showed last season they are capable of beating the bigger teams. There's certainly some value backing the home team to win the game, 12/1 to win by 2 goals.
But looking over the winning margin betting United to win by a goal looks safer at 12/5. -

could be a tight affair...nevertheless.. it could either end up as a draw 1:1 or 2:1 to us.

heard over the radio that the ref disallowed a goal by Lille.. must go watch the highlights tonight..
anyway, the rules allow for quick free-kicks if the ref allows it... usually refs do not if the defence is still trying to sort themselves out..
also, Lille have themselves to blame if they do not put a man about 3 yards from the ball in order to stall the other team, buying time for the defence to settle... most teams do that now... -
the free-kick is eligible and should be allowed. remember henry's free-kick? the is called quick thinking.

Overall, the referee was consistent and did well. -

i watch the full 90 minutes...
sad to say i feel frustrated the way Man Utd play..long ball all the time and their passing could be better...
IMO Lille passing much better than Man utd
i feel relieve when Giggs score and my heart jump when Lille scored the "goal" -
IMHO, man u played like sh*t. That 'goal' which was 'scored' by peter odemwingie was rightly disallowed due to an infringement or foul for a push on Vidic. The ref had a fair game.

Giggs' goal should stand and Lille's goal should be disallowed.
Also, Lille did themselves no favour by walking off the field for almost 1 min.
