Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will miss the next four weeks of Manchester United's challenge for honours due to a knee injury.
The veteran striker has undergone a minor clean-up operation on his knee and will be sidelined until early April.
The injury will leave United boss Sir Alex Ferguson short of striking options, with Henrik Larsson due to return to Sweden on 12th March.
Larsson plays his final Premiership game for the club against Liverpool on Saturday before heading back to Helsingborgs, although he is available to play against Lille in the UEFA Champions League and Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.
His exit leaves Ferguson with just Wayne Rooney and Louis Saha as his match-fit forwards over the coming weeks.
Alan Smith is still building up his sharpness, but was on the bench against Reading in midweek and could soon be up to figuring in the Premiership.
Solskjaer had overcome his injury troubles this season to establish himself once again as a key member of United's squad.
He has scored 10 goals in 21 appearances, 11 from the start, but will now work on his rehabilitation after his knee surgery.
Meanwhile, Scottish midfielder Darren Fletcher is out for a fortnight after hurting his ankle in the 3-2 win over Reading.
