Paul Scholes believes winning the title is the priority for Manchester United this season, with Sir Alex Ferguson's side desperate to break Chelsea's stranglehold on the Premiership.
Ever since Jose Mourinho swapped Portugal for West London it has been Chelsea who have dominated at the top of the table and after three seasons without a Premiership winners' medal, Scholes is getting itchy feet.
The classy schemer has put an eye problem that interrupted last season behind him, to emerge once more as the club's creative epicentre in the middle of the field.
Such has been his renaissance there has been several calls for him being named as Player of the Year, along with a return to the international set-up, but Scholes is uninterested in personal accolades as he focuses on bringing the title back to Old Trafford.
"After not doing so well in the Premiership over the last couple of years, we are more determined than ever to lift the trophy this year," Scholes told Inside United.
"The league is the major trophy, your bread and butter.
"We have not had that trophy for four years now - that's too long. It is a trophy we desperately want to win back.
"In the last three seasons, Arsenal and Chelsea have performed so well you need to be more consistent than ever.
"You would have to say the league has become more difficult to win.
"It would be a fantastic achievement if we could do it because it would be a recognition for our performances over the course of an entire season."
one question, Scholes got a red, with 3 matches banned,
does the replay of FA cup count as one? so he will miss bolton plus the two matches with Mbrough, right?
cause we really need him back.
yes it counts.
and yes the league is important.
and yes scholes shld be player of the year
but hell the champions league is w/o barca and inter and real. theres a good chance of grabbing that too.....
gingerhead is back!!!!! and the rest watch out!!!!
