Manchester United will face holders Liverpool in the FA Youth Cup final after beating Arsenal on Monday night. With the young Gunners leading 1-0 from the semi-final first leg at Emirates Stadium on March 14, the United youngsters looked out at 2-0 down on aggregate but fought back to make it 2-1 on the night at Old Trafford and force extra-time. The two teams traded goals, but United claimed a winner deep into extra time through 16-year-old Danny Welbeck. After a goalless first period, Steve Bould's Arsenal side took just a couple of minutes of the second half to seemingly seal their place in the final.
The ball broke to Rene Steer on the left who fired across goal to the far post from where the ball was knocked back in for 17-year-old Kieran Gibbs - scorer of the only goal in the first leg - to tap home.
Chris Fagan gave United hope when he tapped home after a free-kick scramble in the 73rd minute and Antonio Bryan ensured extra time when he slammed home three minutes into injury time.
Substitute Rhys Murphy clipped home in the last minute of the first extra period to restore the Gunners' lead but again United replied through Febian Brandy (108 ) and Welbeck (114).
United are due to be away to Liverpool in the final first leg on Monday April 16, with the return leg three days later.
