George Boateng has been disciplined by Middlesbrough after his comments about United winger Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Boro skipper claimed 'one day, someone will hurt him properly' after last month's FA Cup quarter-final replay at Old Trafford.
Ronaldo had won and converted a late penalty to win the tie, and the visitors' James Morrison was sent off for a wild lunge on the 22-year-old.
Sir Alex Ferguson voiced his concern that Boateng had not been disciplined, but Boro boss Gareth Southgate confirmed on Wednesday that he had taken action against the Dutchman.
"I do not think the comments George made were correct and we have dealt with that," he said.
"Obviously, I prefer to deal with those things internally than have the Football Association deal with them. It is something we have spoken about and it has been dealt with."
