I've made a similar post before about central defenders in general. Do note though I didn't catch this match nor any replays.
I do feel there's always that possible danger of own goal by central defenders as they play close to the goal, just a slightly wrong or unfortunate touch of the ball and it'll go into the back of the net. I've known of other established central defenders who have made own goals as well. Don't ask me to recall now though.
The ball is round, so it could just go about anywhere sometimes. And I believe defenders will always try to get a leg to the ball to put it out of play for a corner or something. Yet you can't expect the defender not to try and get to the ball first.
