Man Utd boss Ferguson: Middlesbrough have Ronaldo complex
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has taunted Saturday's opponents Middlesbrough saying they have a complex over star winger Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese winger has been involved in controversial 'diving' incidents twice against Boro this season with the Teessiders' midfielder George Boateng suggesting recently that Ronaldo could be seriously injured by an opponent if he doesn't cut out his flashy play.
Ferguson said: "I think Middlesbrough have become paranoid about Ronaldo, which to a certain extent, you can understand when you acknowledge that penalties have cost them in their last three fixtures with us.
"They have disputed them all but the referee has got it right on all three occasions.
"Standards have improved and I think that players generally have too much respect and admiration for a player like Ronaldo to set out to seriously injure him.
"They will try to nail him, but not break his leg or anything like that. That's not a worry for me."

I feel this is not going to be an easy match for united... Middlesbrough can't stand united and they will try their very best to upset united... Every player of theirs will be putting 110% into this match... I feel United need to get an early goal to settle things down a bit... or this match could turn out to be a problem...

I can see Jonathon Woodgate marking Ronaldo like a leech loh..and don't think he's going to give away any penalties this time. So Ronaldo will be quite leg-tied for this match. Carrick eyes Boro scalp
Michael Carrick expects a tough test from Middlesbrough on Saturday, but admits three points are imperative as United aim to take another step towards the Premiership title.
The Reds have already contested three controversial games with the Teessiders this season, notching two wins and a draw, and Carrick feels revenge will fuel Gareth Southgate's side.
"It's another massive game and we desperately need the three points," he told Manchester United Radio. "They will want to get us back for the two defeats we've inflicted on them this season.
"Every time we play them it's a tough match so we're not expecting anything different this time round. The front two of Viduka and Yabuku are strong performers and we'll have to be at our best again if we want to win."
Despite the close attentions of Chelsea, Carrick, who set United on their way to victory over Sheffield United on Tuesday, is adamant that the Reds are relishing a frenetic end to the season, with the potential of three trophies providing a great incentive.
"It's a good time for us," he said. "Every game is very important but we're playing some good football. We seem to be getting stronger and stronger.
"The fans have been fantastic over the last few weeks. Old Trafford was bouncing for Roma game and it helped us put such a great performance in. Hopefully that will continue for the rest of the season." -
Sir Alex says Evra has responded to treatment and will be available for the Teessiders' visit, as will John O'Shea (calf) and Rio Ferdinand (groin).
