Evra's card forces reshuffle
Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping one defender proves his fitness as another bows out ahead of next week's crucial trip to Milan.
Patrice Evra's booking for dissent in the first leg will again limit the manager's options when he selects the back four. And if Rio Ferdinand's groin injury fails to mend in time, Sir Alex will be forced to deploy Darren Fletcher out of position again - less than ideal, considering the Scot's outstanding midfield performances against Roma and Milan at Old Trafford.
"We're going to try hard to get Rio Ferdinand fit, there is some improvement," says Sir Alex.
"But I'm anticipating I'll have to play Darren Fletcher at right-back, John O'Shea at centre-back and move Gabby to left-back."
Milan also have concerns for the second leg, following the first leg substitutions of veteran Paolo Maldini at half-time and midfield dynamo Gennaro Gattuso eight minutes later.
Gattuso says, "I was really sorry I had to come off. But I'll do everything I can to play at the San Siro."
Whatever the line-ups, Sir Alex expects another exciting contest in Italy - the same country where United sealed a place in their last Champions League final, in 1999.
"It should be a fantastic game," says Sir Alex.
"Obviously it's not going to be easy. I think we can score, they have to score obviously. It'll not be easy but I just think we have a great chance.
"The last time we played there (Milan, 2005) it was an open match. We had four chances including a great one for Van Nistelrooy, when he blasted over from five yards, before they'd had a shot at goal. So anything's possible."

Frankly he is like one of the weakest link in defence. In fact I prefer Fletcher over JOS at RB. Maybe heng heng Rio will be back.

NEMANJA VIDIC could make a shock Manchester United return in Milan next week.
The centre-back has not played since injuring a shoulder on March 31 but has recovered quicker than expected.
This week Vidic, 25, started proper training and tested the shoulder with physical challenges.
He had no problems and manager Alex Ferguson is considering putting him into the side next week.
Ferguson is also hoping to bring back Rio Ferdinand after he suffered a recurrence of his groin injury in last SaturdayÂ’s 1-1 home draw against Middlesbrough.
United are desperate for their big two to return after the defensive chaos against Milan on Tuesday.
Ferguson criticised the defending as Kaka was allowed two goals to put Milan ahead at half-time in their Champions League semi-final first leg.
United eventually won 3-2 with two Wayne Rooney goals, one in injury time.
But they suffered another defensive blow with Patrice Evra receiving a second yellow card in the knockout stages.
He will now be suspended for the return, leaving Wes Brown, Gabriel Heinze and John OÂ’Shea the only recognised defenders.
Off the field, United are to push for better treatment of travelling fans after being fined £14,500 by UEFA.
United were punished for trouble in the Champions League quarter-final leg away to AS Roma on April 4 when Reds fans were hospitalised.
United fans threw objects and let off fireworks in the match. The club accept this happened and will not appeal the fine.
Roma were fined £31,500 for the behaviour of their support.
But United are angry that their fans were attacked outside the ground and were victims of heavy-handed action from riot police in the stadium.
United have lobbied both the government and UEFA.
Home Office minister Vernon Coaker said: “A clear message has been sent to UEFA about security.” -

3-2 = extra time
4-3 or higher wif 1 goal margin = man u advance
man u will be out if milan win 1-0 or 2-0 or more than 2 goals margin. the only thing for man u to advance is either win or draw in 2nd leg. -

I still prefer RB-Fletcher, CB-Brown, CB-Heinze, LB-JOS -

Yeah. No point fielding them and risk further injury and end up compromising on the title. I thought Heinze works better as LB? Anyway, if field him as centre, he will still tend to drift to the left. I realised those in the centre and extreme right always like to pass to him and he will make those flank runs and filter the balls to Ronaldo or whoever in attack...seems to work quite well. Remember some goals were scored this way, like Carrick's 2nd goal in the 7-1 thrashing of Roma -

however, being unfit and not being able to play is different from being unwilling to play through pain, if cleared by the medical team. but vidic and rio are certainly welcome, though their recovery cannot be rushed as they could well aggravate their injuries -

Third Goal,I don know why he left a big big hole for Rooney to fire in. Experience GK like him shall have close it when yr opponent is in that direction! -

1st goal was definitely his mistake.
2nd goal was a nice flick by Scholes, pity he doesn't play for England anymore. There'd be no debate about Lampard vs Gerrard otherwise.
3rd goal was unexpected, I think Dida was expecting a cut back or pass to the centre where there were more players. Either that or he was expecting Rooney to play to the side (Man U always has someone on the wings) to cross in to the centre. Still, it was a good finish by Rooney as he hit a ball that was low and hard for keeper to get a hand to.
