Eto'o is top Fergie target ?

Sir Alex Ferguson has identified Barcelona’s Samuel Eto’o as Manchester United’s No 1 summer transfer target. The United boss has said he hopes to make three major signings to strengthen the new Premier League champions and Sportsmail understands the first steps have already been taken to sign Cameroon striker Eto’o, 26, for around £27million.
Pini Zahavi, the Israeli super agent whose son Alex is a youth team striker at Barcelona, is being enlisted to try to complete the deal, while Eto’o’s friendship with Rio Ferdinand — who interestingly is a client of Zahavi’s — is also thought to be a factor in United’s favour. Only this week Ferguson talked of adding pace to his attack — and few are quicker than Eto’o. "When you’re building a team you need to think about balance," "Speed is important to us. At the moment that’s what we’re looking at. Whether we can get more speed."
EtoÂ’o has been unsettled at the Nou Camp since a fall-out with manager Frank Rijkaard and team-mate Ronaldinho in February. The three-times African Player of the Year had just returned after missing four months with a knee injury when Rijkaard accused him publicly of refusing to play as a substitute against Santander. Furious EtoÂ’o said: "Telling a news conference I didnÂ’t want to play is the behaviour of a bad person." Adding that he had not had time to warm up, he said: "I have always thought about the group first. That is what hurt me most."
Competition for a striker who has scored 10 goals in his last 14 appearances for Barcelona is sure to be strong. Chelsea have also expressed an interest — as have AC Milan, Liverpool and Arsenal. According to sources, Eto’o has already indicated that a move to Old Trafford would appeal to him.
If Ferguson is successful, he will have spent most of his £50m summer transfer budget on two players, with Bayern Munich likely to want £20m for their England midfielder Owen Hargreaves. The Germans desperately need funds for a major overhaul of their faltering squad and supremo Franz Beckenbauer said: "We have to build a new team. It will come at a high price and we have to find ways of paying it." -

27 million for a unproven but extremely fast striker to increase the team's tempo to devastating lightning quick or 20 million for a proven finisher in EPL but tempo not increased.. -
if they can get eto it will be a major boost to united already superb attack.

The guy is really hardworking but sadly a top striker he is not... I also hope he would be one but... you can't expect too much from him... -
hes not a bad choice replacement for Saha.. his explosive speed is good since we play on a fast tempo especially during counter attack, if we can;t get torres, or berbertov, i say get him next!!

Eto'o might take awhile to settle in as in Spain, they prefer to dribble more but in the EPL, they just go all out when attacking. But didn't he say that he wanted to sign for Arsenal sometime back? Anw, i'd prefer someone else, a pure finisher as i feel that's what United lack. Eto'o, good as he may be, isn't that much of a finisher.
A real gamble would be one a certain David Nugent, unproven yes, but he's English. Else, another unproven one would be Vucinic. Quite impressed by him when they played in Rome. All said though, i think Fergie will go all out for Berba, and not anyone else. -

Fergie, you've missed out on 2 other speedy Africans who have been quite a success at their respective clubs: Obafemi Martins and Yakubu Aiyegbini. And they don't cost as much as Eto'o.
However, he seems like a good replacement for sicknote Saha.

the only other proven scorer in EPL would be Henry or RVN who pump in 20+ goals per season.. Even Drogba blows hot and cold. -

the team is fast enough, but need a clinical finisher.
Should we get a RobbieFlower type who is clinical but slower than my grand-dad or Eto who is fast and can finish?
Money can earn back if successful. And with Eto, he has already tasted success with Barca, so he would inspire all to follow. And that's another + point. -

Barcelona are drawing up a £15 million bid for Arsenal captain Thierry Henry.
The Primera Liga giants are aiming to capitalise on the current unrest at the Gunners, who have failed to win any trophies for the second successive season, to land the French striker.
With the possibility of manager Arsene Wenger leaving after his contract expires next year, the Daily Star claims Arsenal could be ready to sell their captain as they prepare to reshape the club.
There have been concerns regarding Henry's influence at the Emirates Stadium and Barca now hope Arsenal will decide this is the time to cash in on their talisman.
Frank Rijkaard could well lose Samuel Eto'o to Manchester United this summer and will therefore need a replacement to lead Barcelona to glory on multiple fronts next season.
Although Henry has turned down a move to the Nou Camp in the past, he's thought to be top of president Joan Laporta's wish-list and he could well be lured to Spain by the offer of a four-year deal worth a possible £7m a season.
Henry has made it clear in recent weeks he doesn't want to leave Arsenal but with his future entwined with that of Wenger, there could be a swift change of stance this summer. -
