United confirm Silvestre bid

Manchester United claim they have received an offer for Mikael Silvestre, amid reports that Lyon have bid £3 million for the defender.
United chief executive David Gill revealed the offer for Silvestre but did not disclose the party concerned.
French champions Lyon are purported to be tracking their compatriot whose future at Old Trafford is far from certain following an inconsistent last season at the club.
Gill confirmed Silvestre has two years remaining on his United contract but stopped short of safeguarding the player's future.
"Mikael has got two more years on his contract but we have had one offer for him," Gill told the Daily Mirror.

Silvestre in Barton snub
MIKAEL SILVESTRE has snubbed a move to Newcastle because he refuses to play with Joey Barton. The Manchester United full-back is best mates with Manchester CityÂ’s Ousmane Dabo.
Fellow Frenchman Dabo needed hospital treatment after a training clash with Barton last season. Newcastle, who signed Barton in June, made an official move to get Silvestre last week — but the defender will snub them as a sign of loyalty to Dabo. Barton was quizzed by police after the incident that Dabo said left him looking like the Elephant Man.
England midfielder Barton did not play for City again and left for Newcastle a month later in a £5.8million deal. He is currently on police bail while investigations continue into the brawl.
Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson is keen to offload Silvestre and will try to persuade his star to have a change of heart. He has an ally in Dabo, who does not want his friend to blow the chance of a move to Newcastle because of Barton. -

Hmm... since Fergie did not get any new defenders in the current transfer window, and the backline do not have enough backups, I don't think I will like the prospect of any defenders leaving the club for now.

We have Brown, Heinze, Evans, Pique, Silvestre, O'Shea, Bardsley as backups. Still not big enough? I think it's fair to let one or two players leave. Evans did well in the Championship but I'm not sure if he will be as good in the Premiership. You'd need to tell me more about Bardsley. Pique and Heinze sounds like the best backups now.
