Manchester United have announced that Brazilian youngter Rodrigo Possebon signed for the club in January in a move that somehow managed to sneak under the radar of every major football publication.
United had been linked with the 18-year-old "tall, athletic holding
midfielder",since the summer, but they have now confirmed that he has
officially joined them from Brazilian club Internacional and that he
has already been assigned a squad number.
“Sir Alex Ferguson has handed United’s number 34 shirt to Brazilian youngster Rodrigo Possebon,” read a statement by the club.
“The
18-year-old midfielder, who completed a transfer from Sport Club
Internacional last month, is expected to keep learning his trade in
United’s reserves, but will now be eligible for senior duty if
required.”
No terms of the deal were revealed, but United are
believe to have paid in the region of €3.5m for the player they have
reportedly been tracking for the better part of two years ever since he
first came to their attention during a Nike tournament.
