And reports from England indicate Hodgson is lining up a ₤4 million bid for the one-time Newcastle hitman.
The Frenchman has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford despite some excellent patches of form, as a string of injury problems – combined with the efforts of Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez – has seen him relegated largely to the role of benchwarmer.
The 29-year-old managed five goals from just 17 league appearances this term, and is almost certain to leave the Red Devils this summer as Sir Alex Ferguson seeks to weed out the weak links in his double-winning squad.
West Ham have been linked with the former Metz man, as they seek a standby for the heavily courted Dean Ashton, while Middlesbrough may look to reunite him with fellow Frenchman and top-four castaway Jeremie Aliadiere.
