Antonio Valencia is set to undergo a medical at Manchester United today, as his transfer from Wigan Athletic looks ever closer to completion.
According to The Daily Mirror, Valencia flew in to Manchester last night, with both sides having agreed a £16 million deal. The Ecuadorian winger will go some way towards filling the gap left by Cristiano Ronaldo's departure for Real Madrid.
Los Merengues and Bayern Munich were also said to be interested in Valencia, but, having settled in the Premier League, his first choice was always United. His wages will be approximately £75,000 per week, around four times what he was earning at Wigan.
Valencia made 47 appearances for the Latics in all competitions last season, scoring six goals. -

yipee first signing. Nani days is numbered and Man Utd has 2 many wingers, Nani, Park, Tosic, Valencia (if he join), not to mention fletcher can also play at right winger and giggs as left winger. 2 wingers I hope to join is Robben and Ashley Young, but thats my fantasy lol :)

yea, lennon really have that pace to kill most defenders from epl, almost the same as SWP

yes they all do, but SWP is how old now? 27? he joined chelsea in his early 20s, now shd be late 20s ba.
another player I liked are from Villa, Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor. Young improved leaps and bounds since he joined villa from watford and Gabriel is an unpolished gem in the making, got potential to go far.
I am wondering is fergie considering Ashley Young at the moment, he wont come cheap. Villa may not want to sell him.

Valencia has been holding out for a move to United for five months since Fergie first showed his hand and tried to buy him from Latics in the last window. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich were given the brush-off by Valencia and his camp because he wants to make the trip along the M62 and join the champions as Cristiano Ronaldo's replacement. Valencia close to United deal
Sky Sports News sources understand that Antonio Valencia could complete his switch from Wigan to Manchester United on Monday.
United are said to be close to completing the £16million deal with the Red Devils keen to replace the huge void left by the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid.
The 23-year-old is believed to be in Manchester undergoing a medical and the completion of the move is said to be imminent.

dun really noe how good valencia is... his stats for wigan over the past 2 seasons not impressive at all but then wigan is only a so-so team... fingers cross... hope he dont turn out to be a flop. 16m is quite alot leh

UNITED are inching closer to making Antonio Valencia their first signing of the summer.
The Wigan winger has cut his summer break short to try and complete his move to Old Trafford.
And the £16million deal is expected to be confirmed this week as Sir Alex Ferguson begins the task of spending the world record £80million fee United have just banked for the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo.
They hope Valencia, who scored just three Premier League goals last term, might be able to replicate the pace and dribbling ability of Ronaldo. However, getting anywhere near his goals output might be far more difficult, a factor emphasised at the JJB Stadium last month when the Ecuador flyer missed a sitter in the defeat to United.
Certainly most United fans - and probably Ferguson himself - would be disappointed if there were not further signings by September 1 given the problems he is juggling with.
