Prince Harry deployed to Iraq

On 22 February 2007, the Ministry of Defence confirmed that Prince Harry will be deployed with his regiment in Iraq. He will serve as part of the 1st Mechanised Brigade of the 3rd (UK) Mechanised Division.
The Blues and Royals are expected to form part of the force patrolling the Iran-Iraq border with Troop Commander Wales leading a small force tasked with reconnaissance duties using Scimitar tanks.
This deployment in Iraq will be part of a long-planned rotation of troops. The last member of the British Royal Family to serve in a war zone was Prince Harry's uncle, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, who flew helicopters during the Falklands War in 1982.
According to a BBC news article, Prince Harry had made it clear that he would leave the army if he was left in safety while his regiment was sent to a war zone. He is scheduled to leave for Iraq in May or June of 2007. -
that's fucking stupid... he'll just put his regiment in danger because a scalp like his is one hell of a trophy...
the maniacs will do all they can to blow him up.. and therefore his regiment will be at pains to make sure the idiot stays safe.. screwing up everything and everyone..

And besides, how do we know if he is really going to the border and not somewhere else like Basra? -
if there was a firefight and our white horses will probably be abandoned and left in harm's way...
however, i'm not doubting his courage... grandstanding is usually for the foolhardy and causes more damage to others around you...
so, he's thought about this.. he's thought about how glorious it is for royalty to go into battle.. how it will lift the morale and all that..
HOWEVER.. be practical.. a whole truckload of POLICE and Special forces were flown into Iraq last week to ensure his safety... what kind of stupidities are not spoken about when absurd things are already public?

This is a world where impressions leave a more lasting impact than substance, whether we like it or not. Thus, the PR war has to shift. The Brits have scored a publicity mark here. -

The House of Clarence and Mindef or MOD actually request all media and others to respect his deployment to Iraq. As discussing his exact role and location is potentially dangerous for both the Prince and squadron.
As he seek no special treatment, he will be treated like a normal troop commander. He will be in charge of 12 men and 4 armoured vehicles.
I believe finally his training in the academy finally paid off. Royal or not, everyone is capable a helping hand. Though his deployment is a military decision. Not country. Remember, the Queen herself joined the Army to help in the effort during WWII.
All we can do now to pray for God's grace that he will be kept safe and also the rest of the troops. -

Anyway, his is a recce regiment - so they won't be sitting targets and it will already be dangerous.
And anyway, by your logic officers should not go out into the field because their presence makes it more dangerous for other troops. What about NCOs? Hmmm....maybe an all Pvt. force will do. -
I think this is an undeservedly harsh condemnation of the prince. Secondly, it has always been the duty of royalty to lead troops into battle, and Prince Harry is not wrong in following that tradition.
Lastly, until we have seen real evidence of his performance as a soldier in the field we should not hastily judge the decision to deploy him to Iraq. -
