The Spirit of Jezebel

In Revelation 2: 18-23 we are given this warning...
18 “And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write,
‘These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass: 19 “I know your works, love, service, faith,[b] and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first. 20 Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow[c] that woman[d] Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce[e] My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. 21 And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent.[f] 22 Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their[g] deeds. 23 I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works. -
Why are we warned of this? and who is Jezebel?
In the context of the church today, what does the spirit of jezebel do?
it is a spirit of seduction to move focus away from Yahweh's purposes to achieving the purposes of man... it is a spirit of fornication with the world... it is a spirit that promotes compromise with the world... it is a spirit of death in the church... it is a spirit of betrayal..
Who is jezebel...?
She was the daughter of ethbaal, who was a high priest of baal, and she herself was probably a high priestess... in 1 kings 16:29, we see that she set up the 400 prophets of baal within the nation of judah...
she married Ahab, so she was not only the daughter of a king, but the wife of a king as well... from that, we see that she had both secular and spiritual authority...
Jezebel mixed the truth (Torah) with a lie... baal worship... -
Characteristics of jezebel in the church...
1. Evidence of spiritual and secular power...
2. problem with the youth in the church
3. weak male leadership
4. operation of manipulation, lies and control similar to what eve heard in the garden of eden
5. sexual immorality...
