Liverpool are plotting a second major transfer swoop on Newcastle United – for super Spanish left back Jose Enrique.
Kop talent-spotter Damien Comolli watched the highly-rated defender in action at the weekend as he looks for a solution to Kenny Dalglish’s problem position.
Enrique was in outstanding form against Blackburn Rovers, adding to his reputation as one of the best players in his role in the Premier League – and the Anfield club may trouble the Toon again in the summer.
Dalglish shattered Liverpool’s signing record by landing striker Andy Carroll from Newcastle and the Geordies would look for a hefty fee for Enrique too.

It’s no wonder that a number of clubs are plotting a move for Spaniard Jose Enrique, such has been his consistency during the club’s return to the Premier League and the 25 year old’s has benefited from a great partnership with Argentine international Jonas Gutierrez on the left hand side of the Magpies starting eleven.
Liverpool could well do with a new left back option as they have loaned out Paul Konchesky and Emiliano Insua to Nottingham Forest and Galatasaray and both are unlikely to return which has led to Kenny Dalglish turning Glen Johnson into a makeshift left sided player, which has actually been a decent success.
However going forward the Merseyside club are looking for a full time addition to take over in that slot and the former Villarreal man may be just the right person for the job although Magpies boss Alan Pardew will fight off any interest from the club that already took Andy Carroll from them.
It would take a bid in the region of £15m to secure the talented Valencia born wide man who is very effective both in going forward but also when going head to head with an opposition winger. He has pace and a good footballing brain and it will be interesting to see if either Liverpool of Man United make a solid bid for Enrique this summer.
