Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho wants to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea this summer.
The London Evening Standard says Ancelotti's position has been the subject of great speculation for much of the season, with many in the game suggesting that only winning Europe's premier club competition can keep him in the job.
He has already been described as a "dead man walking" by sources with access to the inner confines of the dressing room and that Mourinho is being lined up to replace him.
Mourinho's switch back to Chelsea is his favoured destination - as long as he has complete control of team affairs the second time around.
And the departure of football chief Frank Arnesen to Hamburg smoothes the way back for the Special One.
Crucially, Mourinho is also still popular in the dressing room and has stayed in touch with several of Chelsea's key players.
