but this group of players was more or less the same one that david o leary had last season.. why the big difference?Originally posted by The man who was death:i feel a bit unfair that all talk is about what o'neill has done and seems almost all of the credit had gone to him, nobody talks much about the players at villa.
no doubt o'neill has done a great job so far but i think the players deserves a bit more credit.
yeah but still must give credit to the players for being able to pick themselves up and play according to o'neill's plans, and the quality in the players themselves, if there's no quality in there we wouldn't be up there in the table even with such a good manager as o'neill.Originally posted by stellazio:but this group of players was more or less the same one that david o leary had last season.. why the big difference?![]()

Yeah, its just mourinho's excuse again. It is a known fact that most lesser teams playing away against teams like Pool, United, Gunners as well as Chelsea would naturally defend after they get an equalizer. Especially when they know they can get a point from a difficult away match.Originally posted by dragg:Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho:
"The result is not fair. One team tried to win, the other tried to get a draw.
"I think it was our best game of the season. We produced incredible football and I think 10 great chances.
"I wouldn't have been surprised if they had scored a winner at the end. It just wasn't our day."

i disagree with this.
villa played well enough and deserve the draw. they werent exactly defensive.
chelsea on the other hand, are not as strong as they were the last 2 seasons. it is not sheva's fault that he is not scoring. he hardly had any scoring opportunities. in fact he was running around in midfield dribbling and creating chances for himself and his team-mates.
selling gallas and duff is a very big mistake and will prove costly in the long run.
SWP is one big flop!!!![]()

o neill really brought a lot of confidence and discipline into villa.![]()

[b]SUTTON JOINS VILLA
Chris Sutton has been reunited with former Celtic boss Martin O'Neill at Aston Villa.
The 33-year-old forward, who can also operate in central defence, has been a free agent since being released by Villa's arch-rivals Birmingham at the end of last season but has now agreed a deal which keeps him at Villa Park until the end of the current campaign.
Sutton began his career with Norwich before making what was then a British record £5million move to Blackburn, where he won a Premiership title in 1995.
He moved to Chelsea for £10million in July 1999 but the move to west London proved a flop and he switched to Celtic, where he was a key part of the successful O'Neill era at Parkhead.
Sutton has scored 195 goals in 498 league and cup career appearances, with 86 goals scored in 185 starts at Celtic.

What do you mean? Sutton ok what... he got no club at the moment so can start immediately rather than wait till Jan. Also he knows him well enough from their time at Celtic...Originally posted by The man who was death:what i feared has finally happened......i'd rather o'neill kept kevin phillips or wait until jan before signing another striker
dunno whether he is fit...phillips is better and even one year younger than sutton!!Originally posted by zocoss:What do you mean? Sutton ok what... he got no club at the moment so can start immediately rather than wait till Jan. Also he knows him well enough from their time at Celtic...
Should be ok to have for a back-up or spare...
The players deserve little credit actually. Had they been determined to stop the rot they would have done so even under David O'Leary. The fact that he failed to improve Villa's position points to a lack of motivation skills and the player's own low morale and lack of unity.Originally posted by The man who was death:i feel a bit unfair that all talk is about what o'neill has done and seems almost all of the credit had gone to him, nobody talks much about the players at villa.

they want to be english.Originally posted by zocoss:England should have got Martin O'Neill instead of McClaren... After all, he is proven and has a good track record of winning and leading average clubs too high positions!
McClaren on the other hand... has only Middlesbrough to show for...![]()
