Glenn Roeder's injury crisis is such that he'll field his fourth-choice keeper against Fenerbahce.
He had been watching Kieron Dyer play in a practice match. Dyer apparently finished it unscathed and, although Fenerbahce tonight and Middlesbrough away on Sunday come too soon, the former England player may be available for Wednesday's League Cup tie at home to Portsmouth.
However, it is offset by an injury to the goalkeeper Steve Harper, who is likely to be replaced tonight by the 18-year-old Tim Krul.
Harper appeared to be experiencing difficulties when kicking towards the end of Sunday's 2-1 defeat by Bolton Wanderers and, with a demanding schedule of games coming up, Shay Given out for at least another month and the cover signing Pavel Srnicek not registered, Roeder spoke pointedly about Krul's qualities.
The Dutch keeper, signed from Den Haag by Souness, seems set to be given his first-team debut. If Tim had to play it wouldn't be a problem, though we're far from ruling Steve out at this stage," Roeder said

ANTOINE SIBIERSKI was NewcastleÂ’s lucky European charm again as he popped up with his second winning goal of the UEFA Cup.
The Frenchman hardly got the Toon ArmyÂ’s pulses racing when he joined the Geordies shortly before the summer transfer window closed.
But he headed in a vital away goal for his new club in their first-round match with Levadia Talinn last month.
