Singapore's Latiff fined but spared suspension

SINGAPORE, Nov 3 (Reuters) - Singapore's attacking midfielder Ahmad Latiff Khamaruddin has been fined but spared a suspension after being found guilty of misconduct during the Lions' trip to the United Arab Emirates last month.
The 27-year-old Tampines Rovers player was fined S$2,000 ($1,282) for his behaviour on the trip, during which Singapore lost 4-2 to Iraq in an Asian Cup Group E qualifier.
Latiff was charged with four counts of indiscipline -- missing training; kicking a water bottle, shouting profanities and spitting in the direction of the Singapore bench; smoking in front of other players and failing to wear the national team's uniform on the journey home.
Chairman of the five-man Football Association of Singapore Disciplinary Committee, K Balachandran, said: "We did consider a suspension, but in the end we felt that it would be unfair to his club Tampines if we impose a suspension in the S-League since the incident happened while he was on international duty.
"We also felt that a decision to suspend the player from the national team is best left to the national selectors," he told the Today tabloid.
Latiff may have played his last match for Singapore in any case, however, as national coach Radojko Avramovic has already said he will not select the player again.
