Sissoko stretchered off at St Andrews
Liverpool midfielder Mohamed Sissoko will be out for at least a month after dislocating his shoulder.
The Mali international sustained the injury in the Carling Cup tie at Birmingham after landing awkwardly following a challenge with Mehdi Nafti.
"We dont know for how long he will be out but it may be for quite some time, maybe," said manager Rafael Benitez.
"He has dislocated his shoulder. It will be maybe more than one month. I hope not but I think it is serious."
Sissoko was sidelined last season when he suffered a serious eye injury during Liverpools 1-0 defeat to Benfica in the Champions League.
And Benitez added: "He is unlucky with injuries, especially with the kind of injuries he has sustained, his eye last season and now the shoulder.
"They are not very common injuries.
"It was an accident but it was clear something was wrong. Momo is a player who doesnt like to stay on the ground.
"Now we have to manage with the players we have until January and I am happy with the squad but when you lose a player that is playing every game like Momo, it is a problem."
Sissoko received treatment for more than five minutes before he was stretchered from the field and replaced by Xavi Alonso.
Benitez signed Sissoko for £5m from Spanish club Valencia in July 2005. -

Rosicky suffers hamstring injury
TomᚠRosický is battling to be fit for Arsenal FCs home encounter with Hamburger SV that could go a long way to determining their UEFA Champions League fate this season.
The 26-year-old playmaker has suffered a hamstring injury in training and has definitely been ruled out of the Premiership home games against Liverpool FC this Sunday and Newcastle United FC a week on Saturday.
Hamburg then travel to London on 21 November with Arsenal needing victory to keep the pressure on Group G leaders PFC CSKA Moskva, who are a point ahead in the section.
Rosický, who joins Fredrik Ljungberg (calf), Júlio Baptista (hamstring), Lauren (knee) and Abou Diaby (ankle) on the injured list, had been called by the Czech Republic for next weeks friendly against Denmark. -

Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky could be out for two weeks after suffering a hamstring injury.
Keeper Manuel Almunia has recovered from concussion to take his place on the bench, but Freddie Ljungberg and Julio Baptista are still not match fit.
