Luton manager Mike Newell has launched an astonishing attack on assistant referee Amy Rayner and claimed female officials should be banned from professional football.
Speaking after his team's 3-2 home defeat by QPR, Newell claimed the presence of Rayner - in her second year as an official - amounted simply to tokenism and political correctness.
Newell said: "She should not be here. I know that sounds sexist, but I am sexist, so I am not going to be anything other than that.
"It is absolutely beyond belief. "It is bad enough with the incapable referees and linesmen we have, but if you start bringing in women, you have big problems.
"This is Championship football. This is not park football, so what are women doing here? It is tokenism, for the politically-correct idiots.''

but he does make a good point.
i sometimes wonder how many of the females being employed in various positions are because of tokenism and politics rather than their ability.
not to say they are lousy but i wonder if the sex had an onus on the decisions to appoint them

they should start make refereeing a full time job
some time back i saw on tv that some of the refs are actually PE teachers for grade one and two students. if the players know abt this then they would show no respect at all for the match officals
